I miss the old Sesame Street

Tony and I got Angus the Old School Sesame Street DVD set for Christmas this year and it has been a huge hit. The special features contain some segments I remembered nearly word for word, and after seeing them again some nearly 30 years later I still enjoy watching them. Sesame Street used to be a place I'd wanted to live. Now it is so gentrified and cleaned up and crawling with a-hole characters like the neurotic Telly and bossy little tattletail Zoey that I barely want to visit. Except when Amy Sedaris stops by. But, back in the day, it ruled. The dvd's prove it. Angus' favorite characters are not the typical choices, and I love that about him. He digs the Count and stuffy old Bert the most. I found a really old Grover book at a thrift store this week, Grover and the Everything in the Whole Wide World Museum. Even the Sesame Street books from the 70s were oodles better than they are now. What gives, Children's Television Workshop? Have we stopped trying to make Pappa Henson proud?
