another first

the unicorn got his first library card today. here he is checking out about 20 lbs. of books....all by himself, standing on a step stool. pride, thy name is momma.

Welcome back, school-free days, bare feet, mosquito bites, tank tops, flip flops, pit-stains, grass stains, cooking out, summer reading, popsicles, chasing down the ice cream man, seeking shade, marco polo, high dives, cut-offs, sunscreen, farmer tans, beach hair, freckled noses, lighting bugs, dandelion wishes, kick the can, sleeping late, ant hills, oscillating fans, playgrounds, sipping water straight from the hose, hot cars, freeze-tag, frosty beers, reruns, fresh cut grass, afternoon naps, blowing bubbles, family vacation, roller coasters, sandy toes, skipping stones, picking flowers, sprinklers, sparklers, growing food, fresh local honey, farmers markets, holding hands, picnic blankets, butterfly kisses, and laying on your back in the grass and watching the clouds roll by.

the unicorn and i rolled into the dude's school at pick-up time only to be shunned by our family's youngest member. "NOOOOO!!!" he yelled at us. "GO AWAY!" um, okay. i guess he is liking school then. the unicorn skipped off in the dude's direction and was welcomed warmly by the dude, who by this point had begun yelling, "DON'T LOOK AT ME!" at his very cool mother. jerk. so i struck up a conversation with the dude's teacher about how the little monster's day went and then into the conversation trots the unicorn, laughing as he says, "momma! (the dude) said we can only call him Eyeball."
